Book on the architecture of SAAL Operations in the Algarve presented in Olhão

The presentation of the book “Participated City: Architecture and Democracy — Algarve. Saal Operations” will take place next Friday, October 21st, at 18:00, at the Municipal Museum of Olhão.

The editorial project “Participated City: Architecture and Democracy” is a collection composed of ten volumes dedicated to the Local Ambulatory Support Service (SAAL), in force between 1974 and 1976.

The collection aims to document, study and disseminate a diverse set of processes, projects and neighborhoods, contributing not only to a more complete knowledge of Portuguese architecture after the 25th of April 1974, but also to the discussion on the construction of the city. contemporary.

This editorial project, coordinated by professor Alexandre Alves Costa, himself one of the architects who participated in the SAAL operations, resulted from a partnership between the Center for Architecture and Urbanism Studies of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto and the publishing house Tinta da China.

The publication now presented focuses on the Algarve region, constituting the fourth volume of the collection, and with the coordination of Miguel Reimão Costa (University of Algarve) and Ana Alves Costa (University of Porto).

Published by Tinta da China, this volume was supported by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Municipality of Olhão, the Municipality of Silves, the Center for Architecture and Urbanism Studies of FAUP and the Center for Studies in Archeology, Heritage Arts and Sciences.

It has texts by Alexandre Alves Costa, Ana Alves Costa, António da Cunha Telles, José Batista Alves, Miguel Reimão Costa, Vítor Ribeiro and Paulo Varela Gomes and with testimonies from the participants in the process José Veloso, José Maria Lopes da Costa, Manuel Dias and Joao Luis Correia.
