A 1st prize, won by the young accordionist Bruna Palma, from Algoz, and an unprecedented collective 2nd place, won by Orquestra Garvefole, in the World Music category, were two of the highlights of the participation of eight young people from the Algarve in the Fisarmonica International Award (Accordion) in Castelfidardo – Italy, between the 28th of September and the 2nd of October.
Bruna Palma was the accordionist who shone the most, in the contingent coming from the Algarve, when she won 1st prize in the virtuoso category up to 15 years old.
The same accordionist also ensured, together with Inês Faria Matilde Sousa, Mateus Marrachinho, Miguel Coelho, Pedro Ramos, Rodrigo Veloso and Tiago Conceição, the other seven young people from the Algarve who went to the «accordion capital of the world and who make up the Garvefole Orchestra, the 2nd award in the World Music category.
Garvefole «was the first Portuguese orchestra to reach the podium in this important competition, which is now in its 47th edition».
According to the Garvefole Accordion Association, all the young people from the Algarve who participated in the event achieved “honorable classifications” (see list below).
All these young people study with Professor Nelson Conceição and had the support of the Garvefole Accordion Association which, in turn, had the support of the Municipality of Loulé, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Parish Council of São Clemente.
