João Frade, Plasticine and Moçoilas are the three Algarve artists promoted at Womex 22, the world's largest world music fair, which is taking place for the first time in Lisbon, from the 19th to the 23rd of October.
After the 2021 edition of Womex was held in Porto, it is now the turn of the national capital to host the event that marks the meeting point of this industry.
The Algarve is represented at Womex, through ALG Eventos, which includes artists from the region such as João Frade, Plasticine and Moçoilas in its catalog.
João Frade is one of the most eclectic and creative musicians in the Portuguese music scene, demonstrating a continuous search for new horizons. country, with melodies and rhythms from the Mediterranean and North American Jazz.
The musician actively participated in projects such as Moda Vestra, Triktopus, Made in Nordeste, Pedro Joia Trio, Manuel de Oliveira “Entre” e “Ibéria”, “Deux Accordéons une Voix”, Marenostrum, and as a resident in Mariza’s band.
Plasticine is a fusion music band formed in 2018 that defies sonic boundaries, combining elements of progressive rock, funk, jazz and soul with Afro-beat, Latin and Oriental sounds. Their melodies are accessible to a wide range of audiences with different tastes “weaving a global musical tapestry”, as they like to say. The band recently released the album “The Most Beautiful Skies” which has received rave reviews.
The Moçoilas bring the soul of the corners of Serra do Caldeirão and many other themes inspired there. The trio composed of Inês Rosa, Margarida Guerreiro and Teresa Silva, sings mainly a cappella, reinterpreting many of the old songs and enriching them with their own energy, modifying some, revisiting others and opening the way for new melodies and songs.
The Moçoilas have been in existence for over 28 years and are a reference when it comes to the traditional songs of the region.
In addition to these artists from the region, ALG Eventos includes in its catalog names such as Eneida Marta, Remna Schwarz, Monda or Uxu Khalus, in addition to several international projects that it manages exclusively for Portugal.
Womex will be in Lisbon at the Altice Arena, in Parque das Nações, but also along Avenida da Liberdade, from the Coliseu to the Tivoli and to the Cinematheque.
