This Friday, October 14, at 21:00

The 3rd Session of Documentary and Essay Film “Memories and Ethnography of the Algarve” will be presented this Friday, October 14, at 21:00 pm, at the Cândido Guerreiro and Condes de Alte Museum Center.

On display will be the films “Maria Belchior”, by Jorge Graça, and “Everything goes into songs – Os Velhos da Torre”, by Adão Contreiras and Helder Raimundo.

“Maria Belchior” will address the story of a long-aged elderly woman, who persists alone in her daily routine, dealing with the house. According to the Loulé City Council, this video received, in 2010, an honorable mention at the Micro Films Award for Macro Causes.

“Everything goes into cantigas – Os Velhos da Torre” is a feature film about aspects of the life of the couple known as Os Velhos da Torre, from the parish of Alte, with a visual and audible account of the traditional songbook of the Algarve, not alone, sung by both of them during their agricultural work and domestic life. Images captured within the concept of true cinema.

The session has free admission and is attended by the authors of the films: Adolfo Pinto Contreiras, Adão Contreiras, Jorge Graça, António Clariza and Helder Raimundo.

This Documentary and Rehearsal Film Exhibition, promoted by the José Pinto Contreiras Casa-Museu Association, in partnership with the Casa da Cultura de Loulé and the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, and supported by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, takes place during the month of October.

The initiative aims to «disseminate ethnographic and documentary filmography, by amateur or semi-professional authors who document the Algarve in its various social and cultural facets. Based on this initial project, the Association intends to build a film collection with a view to creating an Ethnographic Film Documentation Center in the south of the country, in digital format».
