“Arte da Guerra” closes “History Cycle” conferences in Silves

The initiative lasts between 17:30 and 19:30

The “Art of War” in the Age of Discoveries. This is the theme of the last conference of the "Cycle of History", promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which takes place on October 14th, at the Municipal Museum of Archeology

This last conference of the History Cycle, organized within the scope of the Magallanes_ICC project, entitled “Between steel and gunpowder: the art of war in the time of the discoveries”, is in charge of researchers António Conduto Oliveira and Roger Lee de Jesus.

The initiative lasts between 17:30 pm and 19:30 pm.

«The proposal is to make known the weapons used on land and at sea, as well as other elements associated with the military technology of the time, recognizing their fundamental importance for understanding the history of the formation of the Portuguese empire, through the maritime expansion of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries. XVI", says the Regional Directorate of Culture of Algave.

«Defense and attack strategies and the way in which the weapons used in different contexts, sea and land, were handled and worked, will be some of the secrets to be shared by the authors during this session, bearing in mind that it was, in large part, this domain technology that allowed the development of this globalization enterprise», he adds.

With this historical dissemination activity, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve says that “it intends to attract a broad sector of the cultural and creative industries that may be inspired and use this knowledge in the development of their activities, namely in the field of performing arts. , literary production, crafts or visual arts, among others».

In this sense, the cultural and creative community will also have the opportunity during this month of October to participate in three territorial design workshops, promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and promoted by the designer Alexandra Santos, which will explore ways and possibilities to resort to to history, as an active element in a creative process of building cultural and creative products linked to the identity of the territory. These products benefit from the potential for appreciation, by making use of these elements, making them more attractive, original and differentiating.

In the next workshops, the theme of creating these products with design planning will be more in-depth compared to previous experiences, where, in addition to the idea development component, the topics of adaptation of cultural products to target audiences will be essentially worked on, answering the questions : how to plan? How to run? How to communicate? How to sell?

The first of these working sessions will take place on October 20, at Alcantarilha Station, at the headquarters of Associação Resmalhar, at 18:30 pm.

This transfer of scientific knowledge to the cultural and creative sector seeks to boost the creation of an innovative cultural offer, linked to the theme of “Algarve participation in the maritime expansion enterprise of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries”, in the territory of the Places of Globalization (municipalities of Lagos). , Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur and Silves), valuing the resources of its cultural heritage.

The Magallanes_ICC project is a cross-border cooperation project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg VA España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.

This conference also has the partnership and logistical support of the Municipality of Silves.
