More than 300 athletes from 19 modalities, as well as their coaches, leaders of sports associations and clubs, will be distinguished at the 17th Albufeira Sports Gala, which will take place on Friday, October 28, at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, in Salgados.
Martial arts, motorsport, athletics, basketball, cycling, ballroom dancing, horseback riding, football, acrobatic gymnastics, judo, swimming, adapted swimming, figure skating, sport fishing, tap dancing, squash, surfing, triathlon and volleyball are all modalities with athletes that will be awarded.
«One by one, the champions will receive, by the members of the Executive of the City Council, a trophy and a diploma, as a way of seeing their hard work and talent recognized», according to the Albufeira City Council, which promotes the event.
«This is a moment of celebration, of tribute and, of course, of great pride for the Municipality. The Sports Gala is, of course, a thank you for the contribution of these athletes, managers and coaches in promoting Albufeira's sport across borders», illustrated José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.
The councilor responsible for the event, Cristiano Cabrita, considered, for his part, that "this is another initiative that demonstrates the importance of sport in the development of young people in the municipality and is unequivocal proof that Albufeira has all the conditions to be the European City do Esporte 2026», following the application made at the beginning of the month.
In this edition of the «biggest sporting recognition event in the region», before the gala itself, «all associations, clubs and their athletes will have the opportunity to have dinner together, reiterating the importance of socializing for the development of social skills such as team spirit and mutual help and the Fairplay».
In Albufeira there are more than 3200 athletes, of which 2241 are federated, in 28 modalities and «more than a dozen high quality sports infrastructures».
