Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves joins the Portuguese Network of Museums

There are four new museums on the Net

The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves, the Sporting Museum, the Navy Museum and the Science and Natural History Museum of the University of Coimbra become part of the Portuguese Network of Museums (RPM), which from now on has 165 members, announced the Ministry of Culture.

Determined by order of the Minister of Culture, these four accessions result from the completion of the accreditation procedures in charge of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage (DGPC), validated at the Museum, Conservation and Restoration and Intangible Heritage Section (SMUCRI) of the Council National Culture.

RPM is an organized system of museums based on voluntary membership, configured progressively and aimed at decentralization, mediation, qualification and cooperation between museums, of different tutelages and aimed at different collections.

Accreditation of museums, in accordance with the Portuguese Museums Framework Law, consists of the assessment and official recognition of the technical quality of museums, with a view to promoting access to culture and the enrichment of cultural heritage.

This order takes effect on the day following its publication in the Diário da República.
