Coral Ideias do Levante will return to regular face-to-face rehearsals, starting on October 5th, in Lagoa.

The rehearsals are directed by the conductor Maria Saramago and take place on Wednesdays, from 20 pm to 00 pm, at the Centro de Estudos e Formação de Lagoa.

Coral Ideias do Levante was founded in 1996, as part of the Ideias do Levante association.

Initially, with the artistic direction of Helena Tapadinhas and the regency of the maestro Ricardo Carvalho, and in January 1998, under the artistic direction of professor José Carlos Bago d'Uva, the group started to work based on a renewed conception of “pedagogy of the choral singing".

From 2003 to 2016, it was directed by Professor Francisco Brazão and, from 2016 to 2021, by Professor Vera Batista. In September 2021, the group began to be led by conductor Maria Saramago.

Born in Lisbon, Maria de Jesus Saramago joined the Gregorian Institute in 1990, where she began to participate in choral groups, such as the Chamber Choir of the Escola Superior de Música. She finished her degree in Choral Direction at the Escola Superior de Música, in 2000, where she was a student of Christopher Bockmann, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Eurico Carrapatoso, among others.

In 2008, he completed his degree in Psychology, in the area of ​​Language and Logopedia, at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, where he also attended a postgraduate course in Dance Movement Therapy.

During her career, she was part of several choirs, such as the Oriana Ensemble directed by Elsa Cortez, the Conductus Ensemble directed by Filipa Palhares, and the Sintagma Musicum directed by César Viana. He taught in several music conservatories, namely in Coimbra, Figueira de Foz, Fátima, Ourém, Lagos, Portimão and Lagoa.

Rehearsals by the Ideias do Levante choir are oriented in Portuguese and English, starting with some relaxation exercises and a gradual vocal warm-up. There follows some work on vocal technique, diction, intonation and tuning. Afterwards, some themes from the repertoire are worked on. To participate, it is not necessary to know how to read music or have experience in the area of ​​singing.
