The restoration work on the dune cord of Meia Praia, in Lagos, has already started and should be ready in about 9 months.
The intervention, which includes an investment of around 2,3 million euros, of which 75% is co-financed by European funds, «has as its main objective the regeneration and recovery of the Meia Praia dune system, in a coastal strip with approximately 3 kilometers of length. extension, located between Ribeira de Bensafrim and Bairro 25 de Abril», according to the Lagos Chamber.
The work itself comprises, among other works, «the removal of invasive plant species, the construction of a system of raised walkways, the placement of palisades that prevent trampling and promote dune fixation and the installation of urban furniture, vertical signage and information media'.
The intervention is the responsibility of the Câmara de Lagos and is part of “an inter-administrative technical cooperation contract, previously concluded between the municipality and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), within the scope of active defense of the coast”.
