Mother Church of Loulé reopens this Saturday

Classified as a National Monument, this Church is one of the most emblematic ecclesiastical buildings in the Algarve.

The Igreja Matriz de Loulé, classified as a National Monument, will reopen its doors next Saturday, September 3, at 17:00 pm, after undergoing restoration work. 

The opening ceremony, open to the public, will be attended by the Secretary of State for Culture Isabel Cordeiro, the Bishop of the Algarve Manuel Quintas and António Carrilho, Bishop Emeritus of Funchal and born in Loulé.

At 18:00, a solemn mass will be celebrated that will mark this day; at 21 pm, a piano and cello concert by Isabel Vaz and Vasco Dantas is scheduled.

Classified as a National Monument, this Church is one of the most emblematic ecclesiastical buildings in the Algarve.

The rehabilitation works, with a total value of more than 890 thousand euros, aimed at the recovery and improvement of the building, solving the constructive, functional, hygienic and safety anomalies accumulated over the years. These works focused on the facades, roofs, infrastructure and bell tower.

The intervention also included the restoration of the retables and altars of this Church, as well as the portico of the building.
