Concert brings together movie-loving bands at Casa das Virtudes in Faro

The bands' imagination is based on cinema and literature

The House of Virtues, in Faro, will host a concert on the 1st of October, World Music Day, at 20:00, which brings together the Italians Spiritual Front, with the Portuguese Dr Frankenstein and even the Portuguese-French La Chanson Noir.

According to the promoters of the show, «the imagination of the bands is based on cinema and literature. Marquês de Sade, Dante, Shakespeare, Pasolini, Fassbinder, João Pedro Rodrigues, Ingmar Bergman and Derek Jarman are examples of authors and filmmakers with enormous weight in the lyrics of Spiritual Front, making their music an object of multidisciplinary study»

On the 30th of September, as a way of marking the World Music Day, a round table will be held, in collaboration with the University of Algarve and the Cineclube de Faro, where the influence of cinema on the music of the three bands in question will be addressed, with the presence of musicians from the bands present at the concert.

The ticket for this concert costs 12 euros and can be purchased on the BOL, FNAC, CTT, WORTEN and El Corte Ingles platforms, as well as at the entrance to the concert venue.

Who are the bands?

La Chanson Noire was born in 2007, being a project by Carlos Monteiro akaCharles Sangnoir.

Breaking the sound we are used to in the Portuguese music scene, La Chanson Noire shows us the darkest side of Portuguese Popular Music, combining songs sung in Portuguese, English or French, with traditional Portuguese sounds and bolder remixes.

The musical influence of irreverent Portuguese names, such as António Variações, Jorge Palma or Mão Morta, is combined with traces of Anglo-Saxon Gothic and a varied range of sound, to create unusual and black music, with unusual lyrics and, for that very reason, very interesting.

Dr Frankenstein é a Portuguese surf rock band, formed in 1994. The band's name came about “because of their love for B-films and American trash culture”.

They have their musical roots in rock n' roll The Cramps, in the early years of R&B The Rolling Stones it is us Rough Rockin' Instrumentals late 50's/60's. They already have an EP and five albums on their CV.

Spiritual Front are a band of neofolk from Rome. Band members describe their music as "nihilistic suicidal pop", with elements of neoclassical and rock music, melancholic folk and tango predominating, along with a recurring experimental feel.

From gloomy and mournful folk at first, the sound began to transform and grow, currently being compared to the work of Nick Cave, Swans and Scott Walker, for example.

The group's work has been described as crossing a wide variety of genres, musical styles and traditions, and the band itself is considered unique among the modern neofolk and post-industrial scenes in Europe. The ingenuity and constructiveness of Spiritual Front's songs have gained something of a cult status since their formation.
