Canoeists Kevin Santos, Norberto Mourão and Liudmyla Babak, athletes from Kayak Clube Castores do Arade who won medals at the European Canoeing Championship, were received last Tuesday, August 30, at the Lagoa Chamber.
Kevin Santos, Norberto Mourão and Liudmyla Babak, a Ukrainian who fled the war, won gold medals in K1 200m, bronze medal in VL2 200m, Bronze medal in C1 5000m, respectively.
Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, and its executive congratulated the athletes and the technical team of Kayak Clube Castores do Arade for these achievements.
For the rest, three of the eight medals won by Portugal in the European Championship in Munich were won by the athletes of the club from Lagos.
«This moment is very important for us, which we are keen to point out to encourage the youngest to follow these great examples. Lagoa invests heavily in sports as a vehicle for training tomorrow's men and women. If they can get to this level, even better. It is with pride that we see these achievements being achieved and we will continue to work so that our athletes continue to evolve and bring many titles to Lagoa and to the country", said the mayor Luís Encarnação.
