Almancil celebrates linguistic diversity in Jardim das Comunidades

On the European Day of Languages, on 26 September

The European Day of Languages will be marked on the 26th of September at Jardim das Comunidades, in Almancil, with the Language Fair, an event that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity as a common heritage of the European Union.

This will be the second edition of the fair, which will operate, from 10:00 am to 20:30 pm, as a space for information and enjoyment for all ages, but above all an event for the dissemination of pedagogical tools, in the area of multilingualism, by European networks present in the region and other invited entities, such as the National Agency Erasmus+ Juventude em Ação, which will animate the Eurodesk RoadShow.

In Almancil, there will also be hobbies about Europe and its languages, story time, exhibitions, staged readings, a “free platform” for multilingual readings by the public visiting the fair and “speak connecting” with young European volunteers.

At 17:30 pm, one of the most important moments takes place, the meeting “Languages and intercultural and multicultural experiences are paths to Peace”, with an estimated duration of one hour.

The event is free of charge and can be followed through the Facebook of the II Feira das Línguas.

In the European Year of Youth, the organization of the edition is a partnership between the Europe Direct Algarve and the Municipality of Loulé, mentored by Manuel Célio Conceição, professor at the University of Algarve and ex-officio president of the European Council of Languages.

The event has the support of the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission in Portugal and the DGESTE-DSRAL.

«We believe that this event, in addition to having great pedagogical and recreational value, will also generate new and good partnerships, helping to strengthen the values of the European Union, among which we highlight Peace», consider the organizers.

The event is open to the participation of schools (public, private, international, language schools, etc.), academia, municipalities, consulates, cultural associations, foreign associations, associations and projects that work on multiculturalism and multilingualism or youth mobility.

In addition to this initiative, others are also planned this month, such as online competitions about Europe and its languages, on social networks with EC representation in Portugal and on the website of the European Day of Languages, as well as an online event aimed at schools of across the country, on the 26th of September, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, under the responsibility of the EC Representation in Portugal, whose information is available on facebook As Línguas da Raia.
