A concert by João Pedro Pais, historical recreations, food and drinks and a parade of traditional swimwear will mark another edition of the 29th Bath, which will be divided between the Solaria pier, in the city of Lagos, and the parish of Luz , on the 29th of August.
This is, according to the Câmara de Lagos, «one of the most cherished traditions of the county», to which is associated the belief that «the 29th of August bath scare away demons and is worth twenty-nine baths».
«Whether it comes from very ancient times and linked to the rites of the end of summer, or resulting from the Arab heritage, the custom remains today, as well as the festival around this tradition», frames the municipality.
This year, the party starts in the morning with the historical recreation carried out by the Centro de Estudos de Lagos along Avenida dos Descobrimentos and Praia da Batata, «a true relive of the times when the population moved from the countryside to the sea to the traditional bath, accompanied by real delicacies of regional cuisine».
From 19:00, the party moves to Cais da Solaria, «with zumba classes, food and drinks, circulating entertainment, the lively competition of antique swimsuits and one of the highlights of the night, the concert by João Pedro Country".
Bath 29 will also be celebrated in Praia da Luz in an event organized by Clube Recreativo, Cultural e Desportivo Luzense, with the support of the municipality.
In the parish of Luz, three stages will be set up: The Sunset Stage, at Miradouro da Fortaleza (DJ Grod, The Protons and DJ Toy), the Traditional Stage, on Avenida dos Pescadores (Ricardo Glória, Humberto Silva, Cláudio Rosário and DJ TobyOne) , and Palco Praia (DJ Rythm, Dub Pistols Band and DJ China).
On that day, the A ONDA urban transport network will be free from 18:00 to 24:00 on 29 August and anyone who wants to can leave their car at Escola Tecnopolis, where the Yellow (Light) line of this network passes.
«To return from Praia da Luz, the municipality will provide, free of charge, transport departing in front of the SPAR supermarket (Luz) at the following times: 1h00, 1h30, 2h00 and 2h30, with a stop in Lagos – Escola Tecnopolis and Escola das Naus».
