Albufeira honored 62 young people from the county who “shone” in various areas

On International Youth Day

62 young people from Albufeira who stood out in different areas were honored by the Albufeira Chamber on Friday, August 12, International Youth Day, in a session that took place in the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho.

The honorees, linked to the Albufeira Poente, Ferreiras and Vale Pedras School Groups and to various sports, cultural and social clubs and associations in the municipality, stood out in areas such as Sports, Citizenship, Arts, Culture and the Academic World and were « praised for their success, but also for the commitment and altruism dedicated to social and humanitarian causes», according to the Albufeira Chamber.

José Carlos Rolo, Mayor of Albufeira, considered that "fostering solidarity between generations is essential to guarantee a more inclusive and sustainable society", referring to the theme of this year's International Youth Day, which is Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.

The mayor pointed out as “an excellent example of intergenerational solidarity” the fact that several generations were present in the room: young people, their parents and their grandparents.

For José Carlos Rolo, «youth is the future of a nation, a city, a county», so it is necessary «to eliminate barriers related to age and gender, with a view to building a better world for all».

«The future is uncertain, so we all need to work together, promoting intergenerational bridges and breaking down barriers, with a view to building a more sustainable planet and a more just and inclusive world», concluded the mayor of Albufeira, that young people to be the “ambassadors of society”, through their active participation in the sports, cultural, social and school associations they attend, getting involved in voluntary initiatives and participating in civic and political life.

 

 

Isabel Frade, representing the IPDJ – Instituto Português da Juventude e do Desporto, reiterated the difficult role that Youth faces, highlighting that the IPDJ is always open to welcome and support the ideas and projects presented by young people.

Cristiano Cabrita, vice-mayor and councilor responsible for Sports and Youth, highlighted some of the measures taken by the municipality aimed at this segment of the population, «with emphasis on youth entrepreneurship, the creation of the Youth Office, which is currently to be improved and revitalized, Albufeira's candidacy for European City of Sport, educational and cultural programs such as the Sophia Awards, Albufeira Fest, concerts by youth bands in Jardim de Montechoro, Albufeira Sounds Sunset, scholarships , programs to support youth housing, etc.».

"This mandate is an unequivocal bet on young people who are the future of society and, at the same time, its reflection", he added.

All the young people honored by the municipality on the 12th received a piece alluding to the moment and a diploma of recognition of merit, which were delivered by the president, vice president and councilors Cláudia Guedelha, Ricardo Clemente, Abel Zua and Desidério Silva.
