MOJU de Olhão makes a “very positive” assessment of the execution of the Bairro Cool Project

Balance of the first half of the year was celebrated this Friday

MOJU – Associação Movimento Juvenil in Olhão made a “very positive” assessment of what was the first half of the year in which the Bairro Cool Project was implemented. 

The retrospective was made known this Friday, July 8th, the day on which the Algarve Regional Forum of the Healthy Neighborhoods Program.

The Bairro Cool Project, promoted within the scope of the Healthy Neighborhoods Program and resulting from a partnership with the Municipality of Olhão, UCC Olhar+ and the Local Youth Assembly, aims to develop a set of initiatives to improve the quality of residents of the Fundo Fomento à Habitação neighborhood in Olhão.

For this to happen, it develops its action around four central areas: health protection, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, the training of participants and the promotion of citizenship.

Among the activities developed, MOJU highlights the creation of the Neighborhood Office, promoted in partnership with the Municipality of Olhão – a cost-free space for users.

«With this valence, MOJU intended to create a permanent space, of proximity and service to the community, which works as a bridge to other services in the municipality, where residents who need it are supported in accessing these services, for example in relation to bureaucratic aspects, or even in relation to simpler aspects such as reading correspondence», says the association in a note.

In addition to these aspects, the Bairro office is also a source of information on topics of interest such as employment, education, training, health, social rights and obligations.

In a press release, MOJU emphasizes that Projeto Bairro Cool intends to promote the «dynamization of movements that trigger positive expectations about the neighbourhood, the development of initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and feelings of success, empowerment for autonomy through based on non-formal education and peer education, in partnership with the Local Youth Assembly, and an increase in health literacy in partnership with UCC Olhar+».

In this sense, the Health Literacy activity has already organized eight sessions to raise awareness on topics related to health and Covid-19, involving more than 50 participants. In these sessions, topics such as the prevention of
cardiovascular diseases and domestic violence, in partnership with UCC Olhar+, and sexuality or the facts and myths associated with Covid-19.

As part of the Family Management Workshops activity, seven workshops were organized for adults and five for young people, involving a total of more than 70 participants, which analyzed topics such as food waste, in partnership with DECO, savings and family management, in partnership with PEANUTS Lifestyle, or simpler things like sewing training or tips for economical recipes.

In the overall balance, MOJU points out that by the end of June 471 participations were obtained in the various activities of the Bairro Cool Project, consisting of a total of 171 participants distributed across the various age groups.

The Healthy Neighborhoods Program is a public program, of a participatory nature, to improve health conditions, well-being and quality of life in vulnerable territories, aiming above all to give some power, in the sense of "being able to do", to communities, residents and residents. people or organizations involved in vulnerable territories.
