Magallanes_ICC takes conference and design workshop to Monchique

As part of the activities of the Magallanes_ICC project, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve will once again take Monchique to various activities, this time on the 22nd and 27th of July.

On the 22nd, archaeologist Filipe Castro will present the conference “Building and arming Algarve caravels in the first modernity”, in the Manuel Martins room, of the Parish Council of Monchique, from 17:30 pm to 19:30 pm. On the 27th, in Fóia, there will be a creative workshop on territorial design, guided by designer Alexandra Santos, at the N'Artecicus headquarters, from 18:00 pm to 20:00 pm.

At the conference, Filipe Castro will talk about shipbuilding, namely caravels, in the Iberian Peninsula from the XNUMXth century onwards, from the point of view of technological evolution, which allowed the exploration of the oceans and the new discoveries of the world by Europeans.

Based on the historical knowledge shared at this meeting, the ICC community will have the opportunity to participate in a creative workshop, where territorial design techniques will be used with the aim of «stimulating the emergence of new ideas to be applied in the creation and/or development of products or services within the Cultural and Creative Industries, responding to their particular challenges in the field of communication, dissemination and marketing to the public», emphasizes DRCultura Algarve.

On the 6th of August there will also be a new creative workshop of design territorial dedicated to the theme of the fortifications of the western Algarve, between 18:00 and 20:00, in a place to be announced shortly.

Magallanes_ICC is a cross-border cooperation project (Interreg), which brings together several partners from Alentejo, Algarve and Andalusia to work on the theme of Cultural and Creative Industries, inspired by the 500th anniversary of the circumnavigation voyage initiated by Fernão de Magalhães , evoking its pioneering, creative and innovative character. As a partner, the Regional Directorate of Culture is working in the territory of the Places of Globalization (municipalities of Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Lagos and Silves) to stimulate the creation of products and/or services within the scope of the CCI. , linked to the theme of “Algarve participation in the maritime expansion enterprise of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries”.

The objective is to promote a transfer of historical knowledge, validated by the scientific community, to the cultural and creative sector, presenting it, as well as the associated heritage, as creative resources and of economic potential of interest for the creation of innovative, sustainable and identity.
