Portugal Events, a program, at a national level, «from financing to the attraction of major international events», will finance nine projects in the Algarve.

The information was sent to Sul Informação by the Cabinet of the Minister of Economy and the Sea, which does not specify which projects are supported.

Of these nine initiatives that will receive funding from Portugal Events, only three are known to be related to the rental of rooms and spaces for holding congresses or audiovisual equipment and six are related to transfers, since the projects involve travel from abroad.

The total amount of support granted «amounts to 883,1 thousand euros», corresponding to 828,6 thousand euros for projects for renting rooms or equipment and 54,5 thousand euros for transfers

At national level, of the 158 applications submitted, 83 projects were approved, 62 of which are associative/corporate events.

The total allocation for this program is EUR 5 million.

According to the data presented, “there is an expectation of attracting tourists and visitors to the entire national territory of over 1,8 million”, according to the office of Minister António Costa e Silva.

In statements to the Sul Informação, During a recent visit to the Algarve, Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism, had already spoken about Portugal Events, calling it a «funding program to attract major international events».

It was also at that time that the governor realized from the end of “365Algarve”which, he assured, will have a replacement.

This future program will be part of the “+Algarve” project, with a budget of 200 million euros, which will include, like Portugal Events, of national scope, a « component of attraction and promotion of international events».

Even so, in statements to our newspaper, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, guaranteed that this project is not «the substitute» of the “365Algarve”, announced by the Secretary of State for Tourism, since it will have a « specific approach to Algarve events».
