Olhão marked the Month of the Heart

The actions relied on the collaboration of professionals from the most diverse backgrounds

The Câmara de Olhão marked, throughout May, the Month of the Heart, with a set of initiatives in various spaces of the city.

The actions relied on the collaboration of professionals from the most diverse backgrounds.

A nurse, a nutritionist, a physical education technician and a cardiologist were the protagonists of a series of videos, which aimed to alert to the serious consequences of cardiovascular diseases, while giving advice on the behaviors to be adopted in everyday life. day to prevent its appearance.

On the 28th of May, Pharmaceutical Sciences students at the University of Algarve responded to the municipality's challenge and promoted a free screening of the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases: blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol. The action took place in the middle of the “rush hour” on Saturday morning, on Rua do Comércio, with strong support from the population.

Employees of the municipality were also called to participate in the initiative, and received training on the theme “And when does the heart stop?”.

The action took place at the Municipal Fire Department and addressed the safety and relief measures to be taken in the event of a myocardial infarction.

At the end of the training, the employees of the municipality – one per floor/building of the municipal services – were left with the basic knowledge that will allow them to help a colleague, or resident, in this type of occurrence.

Under the motto “Be attentive to the signs and listen to your heart”, this was a month to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases, otherwise May is the Month of the Heart.
