The petanque courts at the Parque de Desporto e Lazer de São Brás de Alportel were renovated to «ensure the best conditions for the practice of this sport with expression in the municipality», announces the municipality.
Opened in 2017, the Complexo de Campos de Petanque is a sports facility that has allowed professional and amateur athletes to train and improve their techniques and have been chosen by the resident foreign community for the regular get-together associated with sporting activity.
The works carried out by contract and complemented by interventions by direct administration, with the support of the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, given the existing partnership with the City Council, which aims to enhance this modality, «consisting of cleaning and removing vegetable land, replacement, reinforcement and regularization of the floor, placement of game delimiting lines and painting procedures for the renovation and protection of wooden infrastructures».
According to the Municipality, this investment in the sports area aims to «value the surrounding space and respond to the requests of athletes, technicians and practitioners of the sport, as well as guaranteeing clubs, all petanque players and the Portuguese Petanque Federation, based in São Brás de Alportel, the conditions for the promotion and affirmation of this sport with great potential for growth in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel».
The municipality recalls that the panorama of national petanque competitions has the participation of athletes from São Paulo who have reached «top places and who have been invited to represent Portugal in international competitions».
