Law book on the defense of animals presented in Loulé

Author is a pioneer in the Doctrine about animals

The book “Investigation of crimes against pets from the perspective of the Public Ministry”, by Paulo Sepúlveda, will be presented on June 14, at 18:00 pm, at the Loulé Municipal Library.

In this work. the author «breaks through in extremely current and highly complex matters, most of which he is a pioneer in the Doctrine. It addresses not only problems of substantive law, related to the interpretation of crimes of mistreatment and abandonment, as well as the causes of exclusion of illegality that may be invoked to prevent or put an end to the aforementioned crimes against companion animals, but also issues of adjective law, from the news of the crime to the remaining procedural acts necessary for the practical application of the Law».

It also reflects on «the difficulties experienced by the Criminal Police bodies in the investigation of crimes of mistreatment and abandonment of companion animals» and points out «the best practices to be followed in the investigation of these crimes and in the articulation of the Criminal Police bodies with the Public ministry".

Paulo Sepúlveda was born in Lisbon, in 1971. He studied Law at Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa, where he graduated in 1995. He practiced as a lawyer until joining the Judicial Studies Center in 2010, in the Special Training Course for Magistrates of the Public Ministry .

He currently works as a prosecutor at the Loulé Criminal Instance in the District of Faro, where he represents the Public Ministry in the trials.

The presentation will be in charge of Ana Poeta and will be followed by a small conversation with the presence of Major Bruno Carvalho, from SEPNA of the GNR, Sónia Pires, councilor for the Environment and Legal Affairs of the Municipality of Tavira, and Pedro Rego, municipal veterinarian. from Olhao.
