Tonne of sardines seized in Portimão

Two fines were passed

About a ton of sardines (pilchardus sardina) was seized this Thursday, May 26, by the Coastal Control Unit (UCC) of the GNR, in Portimão.

According to the authorities, 1000 kilos were seized for “exceeding the daily catch limit”.

Another 120 kilos were confiscated "due to lack of traceability, since it was not possible to determine their origin, thus constituting a danger to public health".

Following the action, two administrative infraction notices were prepared.

After sanitary inspection, one ton was offered for sale at auction, and the rest of the fish was donated to the Lagos Zoo.
