The Municipality of Silves marks this Wednesday, May 18, the International Day of Museums, with several initiatives and free admission to the Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves.
This year's celebrations will have as their central theme "The power of Museums" and, to open the event, 1st cycle students will be invited to participate in the initiative "I am Metoposaurus, and you, what are your names?", which shows some of the animals that inhabited the territory many millions of years ago.
In the afternoon, it is the turn of the 2nd cycle students to learn more about physical anthropology, both in the field and in the laboratory context, having contact with this interesting professional activity, playing the role of “Anthropologist for a Day".
In the late afternoon, at 18:00, there will also be the opening of the temporary exhibition “Óh minha Rua da Sé”, «which shows how the space currently occupied by Rua da Sé has, over time, been the stage for countless and diverse experiences that the archaeological work carried out there tried to put it in evidence», says the municipality of Silves in a statement.
In addition to these celebrations, International Museum Day will also be celebrated at the Museu do Traje e das Tradições, in SB Messines, a place where preschool children will be challenged to use recycled materials brought from home, or using cardboard templates, create their version of figures from our history (prehistoric men, Roman gladiators, Muslim princesses, Portuguese navigators and kings, etc.), or suits, in paper or fabric, to dress the most highlights of our history.
