Tours, sports and exhibitions celebrate 44 years of the Ria Formosa Natural Park

PNRF Open Day is this Saturday

The Ria Formosa Natural Park will once again have an Open Day on Saturday, May 7, and will celebrate its 44th anniversary, «with a vast and diversified program, which aims to attract all ages to this party».

The celebrations take place, simultaneously, in several places of the Natural Park, namely in Olhão and Faro.

At the Marim Environmental Education Center in Olhão, the program includes exhibitions, guided tours, bird watching, live science activities, traditional games, nature sports and the launch of the book “À Descobri da Ria Formosa”, «being a excellent opportunity to have a family picnic and get to know the Marim Environmental Education Center better», according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

They will also be held, in Olhão and in Faro, boat trips on the Ria Formosa, as well as the experience of Stand up paddle, exclusively for the children of Nossa Senhora das Candeias institution. There is also a tour of segway with guide, in Ludo.

The 3rd edition of Bioblitz also integrates these commemorations, «with a program of visits to explore the biodiversity that will identify and record various species of fauna and flora existing at the Marim Environmental Education Center».

All activities are free and are offered by the various entities that have joined the event, namely nature tourism companies, local associations, scouts and public entities.

The objective of this Open Day «is to raise awareness of the valuable heritage of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and reveal a range of recreational and leisure activities that can be developed in harmony with Nature».

For the Algarve Tourism Region, «the natural attractions of a destination, such as protected areas, are increasingly sought after by tourists with different travel motivations. It is the contact with biodiversity and local cultures, through outdoor activities in unique landscapes, that reinforces the identity of the tourist destination”.
