Lagos provides training on legislation and behaviors to be followed in cetacean observation

This is a joint initiative of Estação Náutica de Lagos, association SOMAR and SeaLife

A training course on “Legislation, approach and behaviors to be adopted in the observation of cetaceans” takes place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June, in the warehouses of the company SeaLife, in Lagos.

This is a joint initiative of Estação Náutica de Lagos, the association SOMAR and SeaLife «which aims to reinforce the training offer for maritime tourism companies in the Algarve and promote sustainability in tourism», says the Lagos Chamber.

With an extensive coastline of great wealth in terms of biodiversity and marine life, Lagos has a wide range of tourist boats that make trips to visit caves and observe cetaceans.

«This training offer arises from the intention of the association SOMAR – Marine and Bioacoustic Conservation, which has carried out several environmental initiatives in partnership with the municipality, to work side by side with maritime-tourist companies so that they can acquire knowledge of more sustainable habits of nature conservation, but also to reinforce their knowledge of Portuguese regulations on this practice, as well as to inform about the biology and species that are observed on our coast to add an educational component to boat visits», explains the municipality.

The training objectives are also in line with those of the Lagos Nautical Station, which promotes, among residents, visitors and tourists, a set of nautical experiences, working in a network with public and private agents and also contributing to a constant improvement of the tourist offer in this area. .

This first training session will last six hours after work hours (18:30 pm-20:30 pm), spread over three days (June 6-8) and will be held at the SeaLife company's warehouses (Lagos).

Participants will have access to a certificate, and access is free, but subject to mandatory prior registration here
