Navy Day is celebrated in Faro with visits to ships, baptisms and concerts

Navy Day is celebrated in honor of the feat of Vasco da Gama who, on May 20, 1498, for the first time in history, connected Europe to the East by sea.

​​​​​​​​An exhibition, a visit to ships, diving baptisms and concerts. The Navy Day will be celebrated this year in Faro and the celebrations start this Tuesday, May 3rd. 

Starting tomorrow, the 3rd, and until the 22nd, an exhibition of capabilities and skills from various areas of the Navy will be open to the public at the Forum Algarve, such as operational demonstrations by Marines, Navy soldiers in the hotel and kitchen area and various workshops and workshops. Banda da Armada will also perform at the Algarve Forum.

The public will also be able to have different experiences in the military demonstration tents, Airsoft and even in the climbing tower.

But most activities take place from 19 to 22.

With the theme “New Technologies in the Navy”, the public will also have the opportunity, for four days, to visit ships, perform baptisms at sea, diving, visit the exhibition at the Municipal Museum of Faro, participate in sporting events or attend performances by the Armada band.

The activities will be divided between the outdoors, with free access, from the 19th to the 22nd of May at Jardim Manuel Bivar, and indoors, at the Municipal Museum of Faro.

On the 20th, Banda da Armada will take the stage in the company of the Algarve singer Nuno Guerreiro, at 21 pm, in Jardim Manuel de Bivar.

On the 22nd, at 12:00, in Jardim Manuel Bivar, the usual military ceremony will take place that closes the celebrations of Navy Day 2022.

Navy Day thus returns to its usual celebration in a locality, after two years in which it was celebrated with an online program, due to the pandemic.
