Library of Faro marks 20 years of Timor-Leste's independence

Bibliographic exhibition on the history of Timor-Leste will be on display until 28 May

The Municipal Library of Faro António Ramos Rosa will mark the 20th anniversary of Timor-Leste's independence, this Thursday, May 12, at 18:00 pm, with a session that will be attended by representatives of the Timorese embassy and a conference by João Luís Gonçalves. 

João Luís Gonçalves is currently the Public Prosecutor in the district of Faro, and a great connoisseur of the Timorese reality, having participated in the following United Nations missions in Timor-Leste.

João Luís Gonçalves was the Mentor Prosecutor in Dili, under the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), from 20 May 2002; From September 2002 to June 2003, he was an International Prosecutor for UNMISET (United Nations Support Mission to Timor-Leste), in the Serious Crime department that investigated crimes against humanity in the 1999 militia massacres.

Until the 28th of May, there will also be a bibliographic exhibition on the history and cultural, social and economic reality of East Timor, which is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries.
