São Brás de Alportel celebrates freedom with initiatives throughout the weekend

Introductory arts class, exhibitions and film screenings are some of the activities planned

As part of the commemorations of the 25th of April, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel has prepared a set of initiatives that will run until the 28th of April.

This Saturday, April 23, is also World Book Day and, to celebrate it, the Municipality has prepared a program that starts at 10:00 am with a creative workshop, "Growing and Learning", aimed at the youngest, in the Municipal Library Facebook profile.

In the afternoon, the Arts and Crafts Center hosts another introductory arts class and from 16:00, the Reading Club celebrates its 19th anniversary, with sharing of readings, a book exchange fair and even a show alluding to the 25th of April 1974 presented by the musical group “Cante Andarilho”.

For Sunday, São Brás de Alportel proposes another adventure of the Nature Walks Cycle, where a new route will be presented, to discover the 'Penedo Gordo'. The meeting is scheduled for 09:30, next to the Calçadinha Center (Rua do Matadouro).

Monday, April 25th, is the day to celebrate the Carnation Revolution. From 10:00 am, the protocol ceremonies of raising the flag to the sound of the National Anthem will take place in the outer spaces of the Parish Council Building. These ceremonies include a tribute to the civil servants of the Parish with the most years of service and end with a journey from dictatorship to democracy with a moment of music and poetry presented by Afonso Dias: “Pela Santa Liberdade”.

Also inspired by the April Revolution, the Municipal Library presents, at 15:30 pm, the exhibition “Poetic memories”, while at Cineteatro. Starting at 19:15 pm, the film “Operation Autumn” will be shown – a political thriller about the operation that led to the assassination of General Humberto Delgado by the PIDE in February 1965.

The celebrations end on the 28th with sessions alluding to the 25th of April with Professor Rui do Estanco Lopes.
