Lagoa takes on new skills in the areas of social action, health and education

Since yesterday

Yesterday, April 1st, the Lagoa Chamber assumed new responsibilities in the area of social action, health and education, within the scope of the transfer of powers from the Central Administration to the municipalities.

In the area of social action, the Lagoa Chamber took on tasks that were, until now, assigned to the Social Security Institute.

On the one hand, it started to provide the Social Assistance and Monitoring Service (SAAS) for people and families in situations of emergency, vulnerability and social exclusion. This work will be done in partnership with the Ferragudo Elderly Support Center (CAIF).

On the other hand, the municipality took on the responsibility of signing and monitoring the Insertion Contracts of the beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income (RSI), «with a view to promoting their autonomy and social and professional insertion», in partnership with the Centro Popular de Lagoa (CPL), reveals the Chamber.

The Social Assistance and Monitoring Service and the Monitoring of Beneficiaries of Social Insertion Income are now carried out, in the Social Action area, at the Lagoa City Council.

«In this way, social assistance, which until yesterday was carried out at the Local Social Security Service of Lagoa, will be carried out, as of April 1, at the facilities of the Social Action Unit of the Municipality of Lagoa, located in the Paços do Concelho, in Largo do Município, every Friday, between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm and 14:00 pm and 17:30 pm.

Calls will have to be booked in advance through the numbers 282 380 429, 800 272 475 or 282 380 400.

In the areas of education and health, “the transfer of competences does not imply any change in its usual functioning”.

«It is a huge challenge to receive the skills in the area of Social Action, Education and Health. Furthermore, when we have the notion that the State has transferred competences, but will not transfer the necessary financial resources to put them into practice. However, I have no doubt that we will provide a service of quality and greater proximity than what the Lagoenses had until now", said Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
