Lagoa presents a “Romeo & Juliet” related to «today's society»

By choreographer Daniel Cardoso

The ballet “Romeu & Julieta”, by the dance company Quorum Ballet, will be presented at the Carlos do Carmo auditorium, in Lagoa, on April 30, at 19:00, as a way of celebrating World Dance Day.

In this show, choreographer Daniel Cardoso returns to work on a great classic, relating it «with life and society today», as he had already done with “Lago dos Cisnes” and “Sagração da Primavera”.

«This time, the choreographer takes on the challenge of presenting a new creation inspired by “Romeo and Juliet”, one of Shakespeare’s best-known works, and undoubtedly one of the most revisited classics in the history of dramatic literature», according to Câmara de Lagoa.

In this approach «seeks to challenge the centrality of Romeo and Juliet: multiplied in a contemporary vision, in an arena in which everyone, without exception, becomes Romeo and Juliet».

«In a universe where individually, all men and women intersect in some way in the symbolic path of these characters, and experience different ways of loving. The notion of randomness, or fate, also stands out in this great stage of the social sphere, where the encounter of genuine Love can turn into an uncontrolled game of chance», adds the municipality.

«But above all, it seeks to rescue the space to rediscover Love in its most human and raw essence. His irreducible and capital force. His universal power. Because, regardless of our cultural, social and individual differences, there is something in which we can be unanimous: in the faith that the human condition would be inconceivable without Love. The Love that feeds us and simultaneously consumes us, that guides us and makes us lose, which can be as immense as the immeasurable inner world of those who love», he concludes.

Tickets for this show cost 8 euros, with a 20% discount for those who have a cultural passport, Lagoa Social card or Rota do Petisco 2021 Passport, available at the box office in the Municipality of Lagoa.

Can be bought online, at the ticket offices of Fnac, Worten, Auditorium Carlos do Carmo, Centro Cultural Convento de S. José and Balcão Único of the Municipality of Lagoa.
