This year, the “solidarity check” of the basketball party in Albufeira, in an amount of more than three thousand euros, reverted to the Alegria de Leste Association, for the work of helping the Ukrainian people.
As a representative of Associação Alegria do Leste, it was the Reverend Andry Voukunovyych who received from the hands of the President of the Portuguese Basketball Federation, Manuel Fernandes, this year's “solidarity check”, in the amount of €3088. According to the municipality, the «Associação Alegria de Leste, based in Albufeira, has stood out in the Algarve region for the help and support provided to all Ukrainians and refugees from the war».
The check awarded included the accumulated value resulting from the contribution of €2 by all the elements that took part in the 14th Basketball Festival, organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation with the support of the Albufeira City Council.
During the ceremony that took place in the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho, the president of the Portuguese Basketball Federation left a message for all those who contributed monetarily to the cause. “We want a more fraternal and fairer society where we can avoid situations like the one we are living in. We want them to feel that they are doing something important for society,” he said.
