there is a lot to see

The XXVI Arts and Cultures Week includes, from April 25th to May 1st, a mountain bike race, the International Accordion Gala, a traditional games tournament and a tribute to Cândido Guerreiro, in Alte.

The week starts with the mythical Alte mountain bike, which this year marks its 23rd edition. The Walking/Marathon race, with different levels of difficulty, integrates, in the competitive class, the XCM Portuguese Cup.

The event also includes the 6th Alte Trail/Race and a 13Km Walk, for those who want to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of this territory. At Fonte Pequena, there will also be a workshop on the dryland orchard, a gathering promoted by the ASAS project on peace and freedom, a handicraft and regional products market, a space for taverns and the performance of the Moçoilas, Amigos da Figueira group and a dance with Valter Cabrita.

On the 26th, the International Accordion Gala will be in Alte, with a show that will take place at Casa do Povo. It is in this space that the following day “This is the Fado that unites us” takes place, a musical moment with Inês Cruz, Ricardo Martins and the Philharmonic Band of S. Brás de Alportel.

On the 28th, the proposal is a creative experience (EcoPrint), at Casa do Artesão, and a moment of traditional musical dynamics, with Portuguese drums, in the center of the village. A traditional games tournament will take place on the 29th, followed by a conference on the importance of this activity in Algarve culture in the auditorium of Escola Profissional Cândido Guerreiro. At night, at Casa do Povo, the evening with Ecos da Serra will remember the 1st of May, a festivity celebrated decades ago, in a very special way, in Alte.

The 30th of April will have a program full of sports and recreational activities. In the morning, the Pedestrian Walk with Photographic Beat will take place, in a 6 km route that includes a visit to the abandoned villages of Soalheira, Rocha Amarela and Picota and to some geological formations that are part of the aspiring geopark.

Chess, cycling ramp and mesh on the slab are the highlights this afternoon. And at the end of the day, the Museological Pole receives “Ao pé de Quatro Montes”, a tribute to Cândido Guerreiro, by Afonso Dias, as part of the celebrations of the 13th anniversary of this cultural facility.

The 1st of May marks the end of this program and the highlight of the Week. Early in the morning, the sculpture by Maya is inaugurated in the old market of Alte. At 11:00 am, at Fonte Grande, the handicraft mini-fair opens with regional products and ambient music. Ana Arsénio, from Associação In Loco, proposes an interpretation tour of the landscape of the traditional dryland orchard.

The gastronomic richness of Alte can be enjoyed at lunch served with traditional snacks, to the sound of “Vozes da Memória”, from the ASAS project. The event ends with the Folklore Festival hosted by Grupo Folclórico de Alte, and a dance with Valter Cabrita.
