Former Portimão auction house hosts official 25th of April ceremonies

Antiga Lota was the subject of a major city council requalification and is now again at the service of the community

For the first time, the official ceremonies of the 25th of April in Portimão will take place in the building of the old Lota, the subject of a major city council requalification, which, as of this date, will be at the service of the community. 

The celebrations begin at 9:00 am, in Praça 1º de Maio, in front of the Town Hall of Portimão, with the traditional ceremony of raising the flag, followed by the interpretation of the national anthem by the Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense and Fanfare of the Volunteer Firefighters of Portimão.

At 9:30 am, the painting mural with the official image of the commemorations of the 25th of April this year in Portimão, created by the portimonense illustrator Jéssica Martins, will be inaugurated on Rua Teófilo Braga.

After this moment, at 10:30 am, the official opening of the renovated building of the old Lota will take place, which can be visited by the public throughout the day.

From 14:00 pm, the same building will receive the signature of the program contracts for 2022 with the local associative movement, in the global amount of more than one million euros, distributed by 105 entities.

However, the celebrations of the 25th of April do not start only on this day. On the 23rd, at 17:00, there is the opening of the exhibition of Indian ink drawings “Raízes”, created by Margarida Tengarrinha, which will be on display at the Portimão Museum until the 26th of June.

Another part of the program will be the concert commemorating the 25th of April, starring Janita Salomé from 21:30 pm on the 24th, in the riverside area of ​​Portimão, with free admission.

Anyone who wants to, can also participate in the Freedom Race, whose 16th edition will start at 10:00 am next to the bandstand in the riverside area of ​​Portimão. For this purpose, registrations must be made by 17:00 pm on 22 April via email ([email protected]) or telephone (289 824 946).

In Portimão, the program will also count on the collaboration of the school community. From the 20th to the 29th of April, the EB 2/3 D. Martinho Castelo Branco School, in conjunction with the Portimão Museum, presents the exhibition “A Escola no Estado Novo”, prepared by the History Group of the Poeta António Aleixo School Group .
