Peter Webber, the director of the film “Girl with a pearl earring”, as well as other directors, such as Diogo Varela Silva, João Nuno Pinto, Margarida Gil, Sérgio Graciano and Tiago Guedes, will be in Albufeira next weekend as part of the festival “Sophia Student 2022”.
The João Bailote Municipal Gallery hosted last Friday, the 4th, the opening of the “Sophia Student 2022” program, with the presence of the mayor José Carlos Rolo, the president of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, Paulo Trancoso, and the director Regional Director of Culture in the Algarve, Adriana Nogueira.
Also present were Graça Lobo, author of the first film and education project, developed in the country, especially in the Algarve, for over 20 years, and Isa Catarina Mateus, vice-president of the Portuguese Federation of Film Clubs and delegate of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Film Clubs.
José Carlos Rolo stressed that the future of Portuguese cinema lies in the young people who are participating in the Sophia Student Awards and was pleased that Albufeira is hosting this event.
Producer Paulo Trancoso added that, in the contest, there are 89 “shorts”. He praised the role of Etic_Algarve, which was awarded the year's prize, and of the University of the Algarve, which provided the trainers for the workshops that are taking place throughout this week, dedicated to the youngest, namely, "The cinematographer in your hands" and " Animation Workshop: Pixilation”.
Adriana Nogueira recalled, in her turn, the various actions that have been successfully implemented in the region, in the field of cinema, and she was very pleased that Albufeira had captured this programme.
Then, the exhibition was inaugurated with all the posters in the competition in the category of “Best Poster – Sophia Student 2022”, which will remain on view until close to the 13th.
Over the weekend, the 5th and 6th, two cycles of projections took place within the scope of the “Generator Sessions – Discover your interior”.
Next Friday, March 11, the first screening of films nominated for the Sophia Student Awards 2022 will take place at 17:20 pm, preceded by a welcome session (17:00 pm) by José Carlos Rolo and Paulo Trancoso.
At 21:30 pm, Peter Webber's film “Girl with a Pearl Earring” will be screened, for ages 12 and over, followed by a conversation between the English director and the audience.
On Saturday, the 12th, Peter Webber is back in the spotlight, with a 'masterclass' (10:00 am), followed by a debate with several Portuguese directors, namely JovensDiogo Varela Silva, João Nuno Pinto, Margarida Gil, Sérgio Graciano and Tiago Guedes .
At 14:30 pm, the screen goes down again, for the second session of nominated films. After a coffee break and in the middle of the red carpet, there will be a moment to meet and photograph directors, actors and participants of the Sophia Student Awards 2022. The third session of the nominated films starts at 17:00.
On Sunday, at 11:00 am, a conference will be held by Carlos Alberto Henriques, entitled “The Cinema of the Future”, while at 15:00 there will be the long-awaited “Prize Delivery Ceremony”. At 16:30, the viewing of the winning films is scheduled.
At all these times, entry is free, according to the capacity of the room.
