Cork oak plantation at Rotunda da Empreita marked Forest Day in São Brás de Alportel

Gesto aims to “launch a message for the future”

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and the José Belchior Viegas School Group marked the International Day of Forests, this Monday, March 21, with an environmental awareness action, in defense of the forest, which included the planting of a cork oak at Rotunda da Empreita, located next to the Centro Escolar, where there are two primary schools, two kindergartens and a day care center.

According to the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, «a small cork oak, an autochthonous species that characterizes the São Brasense forest, was planted by the children of two classes in the municipality. A symbolic gesture, which intends to send a message to the future!”.

In this «special moment», «the students had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the importance of trees for the environmental balance and for the health of the planet, as well as about this wonderful species that symbolizes the nature of the São Brasense territory», adds the Chamber Municipal.

The action was attended by Vitor Guerreiro, mayor, councilors Marlene Guerreiro and Acácio Martins, Cristina Matias, responsible for environmental education at the municipal level, and the teachers responsible for the participating classes.
