Painter Ana Sério reveals the “Genius of the Place” in Loulé

Until April 23th

The exhibition “Génio do Lugar”, by the painter Ana Sério, will be on display from tomorrow, the 11th, until the 23rd of April, at the Art Gallery of the Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé. The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for this Friday, at 18:00.

According to Câmara de Loulé, the work that this artist has carried out since 2016, «is part of a plastic research that aims to pictorially objectify the characteristics of the landscape of the Gândara region, inscribed in the literary work of Carlos de Oliveira, namely in the novel Finisterra: landscape and settlement and in Poetic Work».

«Starting from this unique universe, we seek to represent the various landscapes (physical and psychological) built by the writer from the narrator's complex point of view at different stages of his life (child and adult)», summarizes the Chamber.

The writer «uses, among his procedures, elements such as children's drawing, (pyro)gravure and photography, which have become essential for the narrative construction».

«In this way, an attempt is made to establish a productive, operative relationship between literary language and pictorial language, creating a space for communication that takes advantage of the different linguistic codes used by the writer, in order to relate them to each other in the physical support of the canvas or of paper, in order to open up to the user another dimension of unexpected perception and rich in suggestions», adds the municipality.

This exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 17:30 pm, and on Saturdays, from 9:30 am to 16:00 pm.
