The Algarve Manuel Ramirez, born in Vila Real de Santo António and owner of Conserveira Ramirez, died this Tuesday, March 8, at the age of 80.

The information was confirmed by an official source of this canning company to the Lusa agency.

Born in September 1941, in Vila Real de Santo António, Manuel Ramirez continued the family business, being the great-grandson of Sebastian, the founder of Ramirez & Cia (Filhos), in VRSA, in 1853.

Only years later did the company leave the Algarve, also passing through Peniche, Setúbal and Matosinhos, where it is currently headquartered.

In 2015, Manuel Ramirez inaugurated, in Lavra (Matosinhos), a new unit of the company – Ramirez 1853.

The funeral will be this Wednesday, March 9, at 15 pm, at Nossa Senhora da Boavista Church.

In 2014, Conserveira Ramirez had returned to the Algarve by relaunching, on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the Portimão Museum, the historic sardine canned brand «La Rose» na property who saw her born.
