Secondary exams only for access to Superior and 9th year will have benchmarking tests

Approval of the Decree-Law establishing a set of exceptional and temporary measures regarding the assessment, approval and completion of basic education and regarding the assessment, approval of subjects and completion of secondary education and access to higher education

The Government decided to maintain the exceptional conditions of secondary exams, which only count for access to higher education, and announced that the final exams of the 9th year will serve this year only for assessment. These extraordinary measures for the external evaluation of basic and secondary education were decided today by the Council of Ministers.

As for the final exams of the 3rd cycle, the executive decided to keep them, after two years in which they were suspended due to the covid-19 pandemic, but they do not count towards the final grade of the 9th students, serving only for the purposes of gauging.

The statement from the Council of Ministers this Thursday, March 17th, emphasizes that "although, in the 2021/2022 school year, there were only occasional changes to the school calendar, namely the adjustment of the Christmas break, the situations of illness and prophylactic isolation motivated by COVID-19, had an impact on face-to-face teaching activities».

In this sense, "it is considered necessary to carry out all the assessment instruments normally foreseen, the 9th grade tests for the purposes of assessment, as well as to extend the exceptional conditions for completion of Secondary Education, with national exams taking place only for the purposes of access to higher education'.
