The municipality of Faro now has a new Vaccination Center, operating since Tuesday, February 1st, which is installed next to the Municipal Pavilion of Penha, in a tent bought by the municipality and which will be “permanently” in this place.

After the first Vaccination Center «was closed in September», the municipality «was left without a point with good conditions to administer the vaccination», highlighted today Rogério Bacalhau, Mayor of Faro, to journalists during a tour of the new facility this morning.

After analyzing the vaccination situation in the municipality, the municipality came to the conclusion that “it will take many years to administer vaccines to the entire population” and that it was necessary to “find an effective solution for this process”.

In this sense, the City Council, instead of leasing a space, invested 100 thousand euros and bought a multipurpose tent «to be permanently next to the Municipal Pavilion of Penha» to function as the only Vaccination Center in the county.

«Considering that this process will last many years, it would be very bad if we used the Municipal Pavilion of Penha for vaccination and we were depriving our population of the practice of sports and the holding of events in this space».

The management of this Vaccination Center of Faro will be from the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, with the logistics being ensured by the City Council.

On the first day of operation, «between 400 and 500 people were vaccinated», with «no queues or anything», and the capacity could be increased if necessary.

As for the Vaccination Center that existed in the Algarve Forum, it “was closed”. It operated on the basis of a protocol between that shopping center and ARS, "of which the Chamber of Faro was not part”.

But the Forum «already had a commitment to have another occupation in that store», in February, and that forced to find a new solution, highlighted the Mayor of Faro.

Although the municipality is registering 400 new daily cases of Covid-19, the mayor stressed that “the vaccine is working” and that, “fortunately or unfortunately, we are now having many people still taking the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19".

Rogério Bacalhau also took the opportunity to appeal for the vaccination of the people of Faro, as “this is the only way to protect ourselves”, highlighting that “we all know vaccinated people who are currently infected, or have been in recent times, and who have not registered serious symptoms. of infection'.

"The vaccine is the only way we have, at the moment, to fight the virus", concluded the mayor of Faro.
