Covid-19: Vaccination of children below expectations motivates appeal to parents

«This Saturday we will give two hours in the morning to vaccinate children who, for reasons of isolation, could not have the first or second dose. I appeal to parents who have not yet started the process to self-schedule today»

The coordinator of the vaccination plan admitted this Thursday, February 17, that the inoculation against Covid-19 for children is below expectations and asked parents who have not started the process to do the self-scheduling “even today”. for Saturday.

On a visit to the vaccination center installed at the Coimbrões Volunteer Fire Brigade, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Colonel Carlos Penha-Gonçalves was confronted with data on the vaccination of children, starting by saying that Portugal is one of the European countries with the highest adherence rate in the age group between 5 and 11 years.

But, in response to the question whether or not Portugal is still below expectations in this matter, the vaccination plan coordinator did not retort the idea.

«This Saturday we will give two hours in the morning to vaccinate children who, for reasons of isolation, could not have the first or second dose. I appeal to parents who have not yet started the process to self-schedule today. It is an opportunity, there will be others, but this is the first one”, she said.

Carlos Penha-Gonçalves specified that, from the 5th to the 9th of January, about 200 children were vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine against covid-19, with the second dose being scheduled on the 26th and 27th of February.

“And then we will have new opportunities for children to be vaccinated. The process will not end, what we are going to do is a lower cadence because there are fewer people to vaccinate”, she concluded.
