Algarve is the mainland region with the fewest new cases of Covid-19, hospitalizations fall

Data have just been released by DGS

The Algarve is the region of mainland Portugal with the lowest number of new cases of Covid-19 (+1.738), with hospitalizations falling at the national level, both in the ward and in Intensive Care Units. The data arethe bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health this Tuesday, February 1st, which has just been released.

At national level, Portugal today registers 50.888 cases, almost twice the number of infections reported yesterday (+27.916), and 63 deaths (49 people died yesterday from complications related to Covid-19).

The North has, once again, most of the new infected (+19.872), followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (+14.243), Center (+10.625), Alentejo (+1.887), Algarve (+1.738), Azores (+1.542) and Madeira (+981).

Today, 63 deaths were reported, registered in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (19), North (17), Center (16), Algarve (4), Madeira (4) and the Azores (3).

However, despite the high recorded cases of infection with the new coronavirus, there was a decrease in hospitalizations today.

Compared to yesterday's numbers, there are now 32 fewer patients in the ward (total of 2.437) and five less in Intensive Care Units (total of 155).

If we compare with the data from a week ago, we can see how admissions to the ward have risen (on January 25 it was 2.320), but in the ICU, the most serious cases were a total of 158.

If we compare it to February 1, 2021, when there were 5.805 new cases, the difference between the situation in hospitals and the number of deaths is much greater.

There were 6.869 inpatients, with 865 people in intensive care. The deaths were 275 a year ago.

Returning to today's bulletin, the number of recovered was 44.610. Active cases have gone up and are now 592.365 (+6.215).

The risk matrix holds yesterday's data.

OR(t), the transmissibility index, is at 1,13, nationally, and at 1,14, taking into account only Mainland Portugal.

The incidence is situated at 6836,6 cases of infection per 100 thousand inhabitants, nationally, and at 6848,7 cases, excluding the islands.

There are 639.307 contacts under surveillance (+6.130).
