73rd Portuguese Congress of Endocrinology has already started in Vilamoura

In Portugal, more than half of the adult population is overweight and about 17% is obese.

The 73rd Portuguese Congress of Endocrinology starts this Thursday, February 3rd, at the Congress Center of the Hotel Tivoli Marina Vilamoura.

Promoted by the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (SPEDM), the event, which takes place until Sunday, the 6th, marks the return of major national scientific events, after almost two years of a pandemic.

«The Portuguese Congress of Endocrinology brings together a panel of nationally and internationally renowned speakers, doctors and researchers with careers dedicated to the investigation and treatment of diseases of the endocrine glands, namely diabetes, a pathology that affects one million Portuguese, it is estimated that between 30 and 40% of cases are still undiagnosed», explains the organization.

In addition to diabetes, other endocrine pathologies will also be discussed, such as thyroid diseases or obesity, which has already been considered by the World Health Organization to be the epidemic of the 17st century. In Portugal, more than half of the adult population is overweight and about XNUMX% is obese.

With more than seven decades of existence, the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (SPEDM) includes doctors, researchers and other health professionals dedicated to the study and treatment of endocrine diseases in Portugal.
