Portimonenses aged 60 or over can be vaccinated against the flu for free, until March 31, without a medical prescription, in one of the eight community pharmacies that adhere to the protocol established between the municipality, the National Association of Pharmacies and Farminveste .

According to the City Council, the municipality made available 4.500 euros for the implementation of this protocol, which aims to “strengthen the preventive immunization underway at the Portimão Vaccination Center and in the municipality's primary health care units”.

The "free vaccination for people over six months and under 60 years of age who suffer from chronic diseases" is maintained, as is "citizens over the age of 65, pregnant women, health professionals, other care providers , firefighters, or professionals from kindergartens, day care centers and the like”, as well as with “personnel working in prisons”.

This protocol is part of the “Local SNS Vaccination” program, which for 2022 has undergone some changes compared to the previous year, taking into account “the pandemic context and the need to encourage booster vaccination against Covid-19, according to the defined priorities. by the health authorities», explains the municipality of Portimão.

In this sense, interested parties should previously contact one of the community pharmacies in the municipality to schedule their vaccination against seasonal flu.

The municipality recalls that “influenza is a communicable disease that can evolve with numerous complications, and can be prevented or mitigated through annual vaccination of the populations”.

Free vaccination “can also be done in a pharmacy”.

This is a «service provided by duly certified pharmacists» that takes place in a specially dedicated and personalized office, using all the equipment and materials necessary for its proper execution, which ensures «the safety of users and the quality of inoculation», concludes the municipality of Portimão.
