New edition of the magazine “UALGzine” is dedicated to PhDs

Magazine reveals the trajectory of 22 doctors/doctoral students, focusing on the “stories” resulting from their research projects

The University of Algarve (UAlg) has just launched another edition of the institutional magazine «UALGzine», dedicated to the theme of doctorates.

According to UAlg, this journal will show «the journey of 22 doctors/doctoral students, focusing on the “stories” arising from their research projects, and, consequently, on their contribution to the production/transfer of knowledge to society».

The journal, which has an annual periodicity, has this edition, number 14, dedicated to the doctoral programs in operation, which are distributed across five scientific areas: Health Sciences, Economics and Business Sciences, Exact and Engineering Sciences, Natural Sciences and Environment and Social Sciences and Humanities.

As in previous editions, it is aimed at a diversified target audience, maintaining «a general and easy-to-understand approach, using the storytelling, but always with the aim of promoting science teaching and communication».

According to the interviewees, «it is evident that the commitment to a doctorate will always be a way to open up new opportunities not only in the Academy, but also through the connection with the industry and the business environment», highlights the UAlg.

As the rector of the UAlg, Paulo Águas, mentions in his editorial, the research associated with these doctoral programs «has been progressively carried out within the Research & Development Units, linked to projects and always with a problem-solving perspective. , as illustrated in the examples presented'.

«In this way, we are certain, we contribute to the cultural and scientific promotion of society, enabling it to respond to social, scientific and technological changes. The times we live in have made clear the importance of knowledge, whether to find solutions to respond to the health crisis, or to adapt work models».

"Society increasingly recognizes the central role that higher education institutions play in responding to major societal challenges, namely the fight against climate change and digital transformation, among others", explains the university's rector.

Through the doctoral programmes, he continues, «we want to contribute to an Algarve, a country and a society that is smarter, greener and lower carbon, more connected, more social and closer to people».
