Morgado do Quintão, in Lagoa, will receive the British artist Alexandria Coe in one of her artistic residencies, taking place between the 4th and 18th of February.

Morgado do Quintão's connection to art began with its founder, Teresa Caldas de Vasconcellos, a Portuguese plastic artist, university professor and Master of Fine Arts who from an early age created this synergy between the vineyards and her artistic vein. Their children, Filipe and Teresa, insist on maintaining this connection and open the doors to several artists so that, there, they can find a place for artistic creation, whether painting, sculpture, photography or music.

The artistic residencies at Morgado do Quintão «reinforce the desire of the Algarve producer to contribute to the cultural offer of the Algarve», says Morgado do Quintão.

Some names that have passed through Morgado do Quintão are Cláudio Garrudo, Rui Horta Pereira and Tomás Cunha Ferreira.

This time, Morgado do Quintão welcomes Alexandria Coe, a London-based painter who attended Chelsea College of Arts, later completing her master's degree at Central Saint Martins.

Having already worked with Soho House, with Neta Porter, Penguin and Hermes, he adopts «some of his knowledge obtained through his studies in textile design and illustration, focusing on a simplified design practice as the root of an authentic relationship with the body », explains Morgado do Quintão.

The intention of the residence also involves the creation of a piece of land art which will have an intervention by the artist.

In the context of this residency, on the 18th of February, the artist will also hold a drawing workshop open to the public, with the participation of some visual arts students from the region, followed by a lunch in the shade of the ancient olive tree of Morgado do Quintão.

The aim of this session is “to help participants find a way to look at the human body in a positive way”, says Alexandra Coe.

No previous experience is necessary for the workshop, being able to «study and explore human forms in a simple way and with a minimalist design style, combining a holistic approach with a traditional perspective, making this an experience that is close to a meditation» .

Places are limited, and you can register through the website of Morgado do Quintão.
