New online platform lets you report wild animals that are found dead

Um new website where anyone can report the death of wild animals to the competent authorities, quickly and practically, has been online since yesterday.

A platform "ANIMAS - Application of Immediate Notification of Mortality of Wild Animals" is managed by the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary (DGAV) and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) and will allow, not only to keep a more complete record of wild animal deaths, but also to «identify situations in which such deaths occur. mortality is increased and need to be investigated'.

“In these situations, the Competent Authorities must act quickly, and it is therefore necessary that they be notified immediately. In addition, mortality is a fundamental indicator for the early detection of diseases of acute evolution, such as the African Swine Fever in wild boar”, states the ICNF.

The death of all wild species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish must be reported.

 

 

The institute adds that the notification of wild animals found dead will allow "to establish base values ​​of mortality and alert thresholds for the various species", as well as "to assess and identify the need to proceed with the collection of samples in the dead animals".

The removal and disposal of corpses, on the other hand, becomes “faster and more efficient” and it becomes possible to “apply adequate and timely control measures”.

Anyone can notify an animal they find dead, namely "veterinarians, SEPNA agents, forest guards, nature watchers, hunters, hunting area managers, fishermen, researchers and the general public".

For that, just access the platform via mobile phone, tablet or computer to upload a photograph of the corpse and place the geographic coordinates of the location where it is located, among other pertinent information.
