Minister Eduardo Cabrita resigns

Cabrita made a positive assessment of his mandate that began in 2017

Eduardo Cabrita, Minister of Internal Administration, has just announced his resignation. The government official was involved in several controversies, including the fatal run over, by his driver, of a worker on the A6.

In a statement without the right to questions, Cabrita said that, since that "tragedy", it was with "great personal sacrifice" that he verified "with astonishment the political benefit that has been made".

"I cannot allow this use to be used in the current framework to penalize the Government's action," he added.

In an assessment of his mandate, which began in 2017 after Constança Urbano de Sousa's resignation, Eduardo Cabrita says that it was “four positive years”, particularly with regard to forest fires.

Eduardo Cabrita's resignation was announced on the day it became known that his driver, who ran over a worker on the A6, was accused of murder for negligence.

In the morning, the minister was in Lagos, at the inauguration of the new GNR post. Questioned at the time about this accusation, Cabrita considered that it was "the rule of law in operation", stressing that "he was just a passenger".
