Loulé will have “Aldeia dos Sonhos” at Christmas and fireworks in Quarteira on New Year's Eve

Both initiatives will comply with a Contingency Plan duly prepared for this purpose.

“Aldeia dos Sonhos” is back in the city of Loulé, in a recreation of the typical Santa Claus village that is part of children's imagination, opening today, December 4th. As for the New Year's Eve concert, it was cancelled, but there will be fireworks at various points on Quarteira beach.

This village extends over four main points of the city, namely the Aldeia do Pai Natal (Cerca do Convento), Largo dos Duendes (Alcaidaria do Castelo), the South Pole (Largo D. Afonso III), in addition to a area with diverse decoration alluding to the Christmas season (Largo de S. Francisco).

This fantasy village comes back to life: «the synthetic ice rink, the carousel, the train, Father Christmas's house, the village of Duendes, or the areas with Christmas gastronomy, where there will be plenty of traditional sweets of the season», he says. the autarchy.

Quarteira Christmas Square (Praça do Mar and Municipal Center) and Jardim dos Sonhos (Communities Garden), in Almancil, will be other spaces in the county where the magic of Christmas will remain until the 1st of January, with many reasons for interest not only for the youngest but also for the grown-ups.

“Aldeia dos Sonhos” is open from today until January 1st and will be open from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, from 14:30 pm to 19:00 pm, and on Saturday, from 10:30 am to 19:00 pm. Closed on Mondays.

Admission is free but it is necessary to present the digital vaccination certificate, in the form of complete vaccination or recovery from illness, or a negative antigen test for Covid-19.

The use of a mask is mandatory for people over 12 years of age and the cleaning and sanitizing of spaces will be carried out frequently. Food purchased inside the enclosure must be consumed outside.

The space will have a Contingency Plan, which received a positive opinion from the Local Health Delegate, with proper authorization to carry out these initiatives, which should be updated as defined for the country, taking into account the evolution of the pandemic.

Lighting is also once again one of the highlights of this Christmas entertainment program «as a way to bring more brightness to localities, create a unique ambience and promote traditional commerce», emphasizes the Loulé municipality.

In addition to the main urban centers, all parish seats will be decorated to the nines with notes referring to the square, to welcome the Christmas spirit.

Praça da República, in front of the Paços do Concelho, will be «one of the main attractions for those who want to appreciate the art and beauty of lighting», with the “reindeer band”, conducted by the conductor São Nicolau, “an installation with five sculptural pieces that every night will illuminate the commercial heart of Loulé».

The autarchy, like other municipalities in the Algarve, chose not to hold other events within the scope of the festivities, so the New Year's Eve concert, in Quarteira, with the band Expensive Soul, will be canceled «in order to reduce possible risks of contagion, as this is an event conducive to contacts social and gatherings.

However, the municipality will maintain the traditional fireworks show, in a different form than usual, as it is planned to be launched from various points on Quarteira beach, in order to avoid the concentration of people in front of the Praça do Mar.

Also the “Giant Cake” initiative, scheduled for the King's Day, 6 January, will not take place in 2022.

“We are keeping an eye on the status of the pandemic and how it will evolve in the coming weeks. However, we know that vaccination has been fundamental so that the context today is very different from what it was a year ago», says the Mayor, Vítor Aleixo.

“That's why we decided to carry out this program, still far from normal, but which will allow us to take to our residents and those who visit the county these days a little of the spirit of this square, while we are supporting our merchants. I appeal to everyone to be prudent and maintain all protective measures», concludes the mayor.
