Portuguese triathlete João Nuno Batista becomes world runner-up in Quarteira

15-year-old athlete was the youngest in the competition

João Nuno Batista, 15 years old Portuguese triathlete, was crowned junior world runner-up in triathlon, Triathlon Internacional de Quarteira Prof. Carlos Gravata, yesterday, Saturday.

The athlete from Torres Novas, who was the youngest in the competition, was only behind the Spanish Igor Bellido and was close to equaling his brother, Ricardo Batista, world junior champion in 2019.

Batista left swimming (750 meters) in fourth place and, on the cycling course (20 kilometers), joined the group that was chasing the leaders, starting athletics (five kilometers) in 15th position. In the last segment the Portuguese managed to gain several positions and finished the 'sprint' for second place.
