On Monday, November 28, Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA) FM celebrates its 19th anniversary, with the launch of a renewed regular program and a new website on the horizon.

The new regular grid of RUA FM will be broadcast on December 1st, with a new program, «keeping the bet on music, emerging culture and information. The Christmas season will also be present in the broadcast, with jingles and tabs alluding to Christmas, wrapped up in a good mood and music from this festive season at every time signal, in different, more or less peculiar versions», says the University of Algarve (UAlg).

Also in December, there will be a new website for RUA: with new design and features, at the level of soundcloud and also with new content in the areas of entertainment and information.

Another novelty will be to provide a WhatsApp contact so that listeners can record messages, answer questions or contests, to later pass on the broadcast, promoting greater interaction.

The objective “is to continue to involve the academic universe and the community, participate in the enhancement and growth of both, grow simultaneously, and at the same time be a regional alternative to national radios”, says UAlg.

Over the last year, RUA FM saw the team renewed, with the entry of Alexandre Moura (a journalist with more than 20 years of experience in several national media in the area of television and written press) for the position of program and information coordinator , in November of last year, together with the entry of Susana Monteiro at the beginning of last summer.

“RUA has given me many opportunities: it is excellent to learn more in the radio area and to grow as a professional”, says the latest acquisition of this radio.

Currently made up of two full-time elements, from December the team will be reinforced with the entry of Pedro Figueiras, all former students of the University of Algarve, graduated in Communication Sciences.

“It's a tremendous sense of accomplishment to be able to help young people who are just like I was before I go up the road for the first time. RUA gives the opportunity to learn and make mistakes to those who want to start and this is the greatest help that a young communicator can have», considers Pedro Figueiras.

A year after taking over the coordination, Alexandre Moura highlights the commitment and work carried out during an atypical year, which resulted in a greater offer of services, as Associação Radio Universitária do Algarve, in the video or communication area, which allowed us to gather more resources to reinforce the permanent team of RUA FM.

«As an association, we will continue to develop projects in the area of video and communication at an external level, in order to strengthen the resources of our radio, which is the soul of this project», says the coordinator, who also highlights the work carried out «in strengthening the level of partnerships and protocols with institutions in the region, such as with the IPDJ, which was established for the first time a protocol, which resulted in several partnerships and direct support to young UAlg students who collaborate with us».

In addition to the permanent team, RUA FM has about 40 volunteers who participate and collaborate in the various moments that make up the programming grid, in different daily broadcasts, in sections or author programs.

This is a number that seems to continue to rise.

“At the beginning of the school year, we are registering an influx of students above the average and in record numbers. At the moment, we are in the formation phase and some already debuted in November. It is a huge satisfaction to see them grow, not least because we are a radio laboratory, not neglecting the quality of the final work that we intend to present to our listeners», he stresses.

With eyes set on the future, in 2022 RUA FM celebrates two decades of existence, a moment that will be marked with several initiatives: in terms of broadcasting, a new soundscape will be presented, with new jingles, separators, contents, among many others surprises and news.

For now, the 19th anniversary will be celebrated with a party with free entry, this Saturday, November 27, at 22 pm, in the multipurpose room of the Associação Recreativa e Cultural os Músicos (ARCM), an event integrated into the SIGA Festival.
